Cignpost partners with EQL to roll out its Phio platform

Helping people get back to work through smarter digital MSK care

Returning to work after injury, illness or prolonged stress isn’t always straightforward. Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions remain one of the leading causes of absence across the UK, and too often people face long waits, unclear advice, or uncertainty about how to move safely.

At EQL, we are proud to be leading the way in digital MSK triage and virtual physiotherapy through our platform Phio. In 2025, UK private health insurance and wellness products provider, Cignpost, added the Phio product suite onto their MyCignpost health and wellness app, giving Cignpost users free access to clinically guided digital MSK support – all in one place.

The integration brings together Cignpost’s trusted wellbeing platform with EQL’s expertise in digital musculoskeletal triage and virtual physiotherapy, making it easier than ever for users to recover safely, confidently, and sustainably.

Guidance you can trust

When pain strikes, uncertainty often makes things worse. People frequently turn to online searches or delay action altogether because they’re unsure what’s safe.

Phio removes that uncertainty. Through clinically validated digital triage, users complete a guided assessment that helps identify the likely cause of their symptoms and determines the most appropriate next step. Where self-management is appropriate, Phio immediately provides a personalised programme designed by physiotherapists. Where escalation is needed, users are guided appropriately on next steps.

For Cignpost users, this means trusted, evidence-based MSK guidance is now embedded directly within the MyCignpost experience – making early intervention simple and accessible.

Removing barriers to early intervention

Delays in MSK care can increase the likelihood of chronic pain and prolonged absence. One of the most powerful aspects of digital triage is immediacy.

With Phio, Cignpost users can begin their recovery journey as soon as symptoms appear, without waiting for initial appointments. This early engagement helps prevent escalation, reduces uncertainty, and empowers individuals to take control sooner.

For employers and insurers, it translates into faster recovery, better outcomes, and a stronger, healthier, more resilient workforce. With Phio embedded directly into MyCignpost, support is seamless, clinically guided, and available anytime, helping more people return to work confident and ready.

Personalised physiotherapy, delivered digitally

Through the MyCignpost app, users can now directly access Phio, which delivers:

  • Clinically led MSK triage
Phio uses evidence-based digital assessment tools to help people understand their musculoskeletal pain or injury, and directs them towards the most suitable care: be that referral, in-person care or digitally enabled self-management.
  • Personalised recovery programmes
People who are suitable for self-management, receive tailored, physiotherapy-designed exercise plans that adapt as they progress in their recovery.
  • On-demand virtual support
Phio provides guided exercise sessions and clear, practical advice that fits around work and daily life, with clinicians available for any questions or concerns.
  • Early intervention and prevention
Addressing issues early helps reduce long-term pain, prevent absence from work, and support a faster, safer return
  • Confidence to move again
Structured, progressive programmes help users rebuild strength and trust in their bodies.

Helping people get back to work

A successful return to work depends on more than just pain reduction alone. Confidence, resilience and functional strength all play an important role. Many people experience ongoing pain, fatigue, stress, or reduced confidence following injury or illness.

Phio supports recovery through a modern approach, recognising that recovery is influenced by:

  • Physical condition and strength
  • Stress and emotional wellbeing
  • Sleep and daily habits
  • Beliefs and confidence about movement

By combining clinical MSK guidance with the broader wellbeing tools already available in MyCignpost, users can now take a holistic approach to recovery, addressing both body and mind in one seamless experience.

A shared commitment to better recovery

Jason Ward, Co-founder and CEO of EQL, commented: “We’re committed to transforming how people access support on their recovery journey. This collaboration gives thousands of people access to structured, clinically guided recovery tools directly within MyCignpost, reducing delays in care and improving outcomes. By combining the strengths of both teams, we deliver a holistic experience that supports people across their entire recovery journey”.

Steph Connell, Chief Experience Officer from Cignpost added: “Our goal has always been to empower individuals to better understand and manage their health. Integrating Phio into MyCignpost gives our users direct access to high-quality MSK support at no extra cost. It’s a powerful addition that strengthens our commitment to helping people recover well and get back to work safely”.
